Dear Fellow IDIS Members:
If you stay ready, you don’t need to get ready. - Will Smith, (ranked by Newsweek in 2007 as the most powerful actor in Hollywood)
Have you ever found that your mind goes blank when someone asks you, “What do you do for a living?” For many of us, we aren’t always prepared to answer that question so as to not be passed over like ‘just another insurance salesperson.’ Instead, if we thoughtfully prepare to answer the question in advance, we cannot not only be ready to answer the question effectively, we can also embrace the opportunity to help someone protect their most valuable asset.
Likewise, with the first quarter of 2018 coming to an end, Disability Insurance Awareness Month (DIAM) is less than 5 weeks from now. Has anyone suggested that you should start getting ready for Disability Insurance Awareness Month? Similarly, we should thoughtfully prepare in advance for May as well as to recognize the opportunities that otherwise we may not see if we aren’t ready. We have lots of resources to help us get ready for DIAM, as well as stay ready throughout the year to share our most important message.
Reach out to the insurance carriers that support you and the International DI Society. They all have outstanding materials and real-life stories that can be shared with our clients, by internet, by mail, as well as in person. They are also ready to help you with any Disability Insurance Awareness events that you would like to initiate or participate in. For example, April 25th is the Third Annual Utah DI Group (UDIG) Event that is being sponsored by Bart Spencer and Alegis Financial, as well as many of our great Disability Insurance Carriers.
Explore the resources that are available to you online to make this the best DIAM ever. The Council for Disability Awareness sponsors the site: www.disabilitycanhappen.org/diam. Look under the “Education Center” for some great content that you can share. www.protectyourincome.com/disability-insurance is another great site for staying prepared to share the importance of income protection. Life Happens has a great tab of “tools and resources” at www.life-happens/org/insurance-overview/disability-insurance. This is to name only a few that many of us have found to be very helpful in our preparation.
Finally, don’t overlook the resources that are available to you through your membership in IDIS. There is the Speaker’s Bureau with many of our members highlighted who are more than willing to support your efforts in promoting DIAM. Chris Carlson’s training video is not only great foundational information for us, but provides many valuable insights to share with our clients. AHIP offers many valuable courses on Disability Insurance that can help you obtain your DIA and DIF designations, with discount pricing for IDIS Members.
Please reach out to our great Board of Directors that are doing great things to support you and our Society. We are more than willing to do whatever we can to help you to get ready and stay ready in sharing your message, as well as making the International DI Society your best resource for Disability Insurance Awareness Month and for the rest of 2018.

The program she will be presenting for us is How to Stand Out From the Crowd and Set More Appointments in One Hour than Many Advisors Set in One Week. Do you want to stand out as the “Go-To” experts in their community or niche? Do you wish you could spend less time on marketing and more time working with clients or at home with your familly? If you answered yes to either question then you MUST become “Crazy Good” at delivering presentations that are enjoyable/memorable AND get audience members to sign up for an appointment. Without this skill set many Advisors will never reach “Go-To”status and are working much harder than needed to get clients. .
