    President's Report

    Dear Fellow IDIS Members:

“It’s a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together” - Author Unknown

Thanks to YOU for making the IDIS a great organization to be a part of and for your support in this most important area of protection.  There are a lot of exciting things happening in the IDIS currently that can help you with your passion!

First, you can set yourself apart by achieving your DIF.  This designation was created by the IDIS in conjunction with AHIP.  It is the most advanced, and only generally recognized, accreditation that focuses specifically on Disability Insurance.   By earning this title, you signify a complete commitment to your career and your organization, while representing your expertise and passion to colleagues.  As a member of IDIS, AHIP offers generous discounts to our members for courses to fulfill the DIF, DIA and DFP designations. To learn more, go to  Also, Belinda from AHIP will be at our Annual Conference to explain more about the benefits of DIF.

Next, we are proud to announce the September 27th DI Study Group call will host Jim Harris and Roy McLoughlin, from the UK Income protection Task Force, to talk with us about the state of Income Protection in the UK.  They will be talking about some of the dynamics, statistics, and challenges that they face in the UK, many of which are similar to those that you face in the US.  They will also be sharing a link to a successful campaign that was recently launched in the UK called “7 Families.”  Watch for a link in your email to that campaign, as well as the details of the earlier time for the Study Group, to accommodate our guests from the UK.  We look forward to collaborating with them more to promote awareness and the need for Income Protection.

Last, but not least, be sure to register for our Annual October Convention in St. Louis, MO.  Don Schamay and his Committee have done an outstanding job of putting together a great program, along with great sponsors, as well as networking opportunities for you.  With the theme “Taking Care of Business” will be a memorable Conference to attend.  Looking forward to seeing you there.

Keep sharing your passion with everyone!

    Greg Nelson, ChFC, CEBS, DIF

    President - 2018
